Brandshatch - Race 8 Report
Brandshatch Circuit, Kent
Race 8 - Sunday 4th October
Woke up feeling rather stiff and achey from Saturday's antics but was confident I would give it a damn good go at qualifying!
My car was mostly fixed, although the chassis was still a bit bent - this was not fixable in time for the race. Thousands
of people were there for the truck superprix so it was very nerve-wracking!
Conditions were good and I qualified quicker than Saturday in 6th place! Really pleased with that.
Had a great start, jumped up to 4th place (again!) and then dropped to 5th as Sheena came storming past me on a mission
for the championship. Suddenly though, Emily and Sheena had a joint spin and dropped behind. I carried on pushing it and was
flying around the track heading for MY FIRST PODIUM! But... as I came up to Druid's my foot slipped whilst changing gear and
I went into the gravel. But that gravel wasn't going to stop me! As 2 drivers went past I managed to crawl out and get going
again in 7th place, as another car came up behind me.
As we got to the half-point of the race I started suffering around the corners - I had a neck brace on but the bottom
left of my back was giving me a lot of pain and restricting my movements into the turns. I started to drop my speed as I struggled
to carry on with the race. I checked the lap time remaining at each pass of the pits and was willing the race to finish so
I could end the pain! I was suffering and trying to push myself physically but energy was low due to the pain and the car
behind me was catching up and eventually passed me.
Thank god, the last lap sign came out so I managed one last lap without falling behind any more places and when the race
ended the relief was overwhelming. I had finished in 8th place.
Absolutely shattered I struggled to get out of the car but I had done it - I had completed a full season of racing!
Following on from the relief, I felt a bit sad it was all over now... but I can look to the future and I know I will be
racing next season.
Thanks to all my friends and family who have supported me throughout the season and at Brandshatch where there was a great
turn-out!
